Hecht & Bannier

Gregory Hecht and Francois Bannier created their business Hecht & Bannier in 2001. Their aim was to differentiate themselves from other wine producers by offering a unique range. Hecht and Bannier’s expertise is focused on the Languedoc and Roussillon region and they believe their wines allow wine-lovers to discover the extraordinary quality and wealth of their region. The cornerstone of their profession is their extensive knowledge of vineyards and cellars. Every year they visit hundreds of producers to select only the best wines. Often, their wines come from vineyards in the cooler foothills where it isn’t rare to see hundred-year-old vines. Once the long selection process has come to an end, they organize tastings to create the blends and decide on their options.

Conserving the typical Mediterranean strength in their wines while preserving balance and crispness, is their mantra for all the appellations they produce. Each wine bottle is fully representative of the region and terroir, serving as the benchmark that other wines are measured against.

The goal of Hecht & Bannier is to have their wines become the reference for quality in the region with a unique range of appellation wines.

Hecht & Bannier Languedoc Blanc

Harvested from the coolest parcels along the coast, only grapes with the right amount of acidity are used in the Languedoc Blanc. The late ripening Picpoul is also well adapted to the Mediterranean climate with grapes keeping their high acidity until the harvesting period at the end of September. Picpoul brings stimulus and freshness to the wine while the citrus and white flower fragrances of Roussanne bring a rich flavor and depth to the wine.

Hecht & Bannier Saint Chinian

The wine expresses a bouquet typical of Iris and bulbous flowers tied with a rich minerality. Mourvedre combined with Grenache offers structure and flesh to the wine, wonderfully complementing the aromatic explosion of Syrah. The leavening of spice and pepper on this blend brings an extra dimension to the berry flavors. Around 30% of the blend was aged in new oak, to impart softness and creaminess in this rich and full-bodied wine.

Hecht & Bannier Faugeres

Faugeres offers the unique encounter of a great and homogeneous terroir, the schist, with one variety, the Syrah.  “A hint of coconut and lanolin (from a new demi-muid incorporated into the blend) mingles with smoke-tinged black cherry in the nose of Hecht & Bannier’s Faugeres. With an impressive sense of grip and sheer density, yet of fine-grained tannins, too, this offers an invigorating combination of fruit skin and rhubarb-like (vintage typical) tartness and tactile crushed stone, as well as deep, bitter-sweet dark chocolate.”
