Isole e Olena

The name “Isole e Olena” was conceived in the 1950s when two adjoining estates, “Isole” and “Olena” were purchased by the De Marchi family and were combined to form one.

The estate is located in the central part of Chianti Classico in the province of Tuscany. In the beginning of the 1950s the De Marchi family gradually began phasing out the sharecropping system, new specialized vineyards were planted and the wine cellars were expanded.

Today the Isole e Olena estate is run by Paolo de Marchi and his family. Paolo, widely known as one of Italy’s finest winemakers, comes from a family with three generations of winemaking experience in the northern section of Piedmont and in 1976 he began managing the estate with the goal of combining his technical training with the desire to firmly establish the winery as one of the forerunners in Chianti. At that time the cellars were modernized and experimental vineyard plots were planted. The traditional 4-grape Chianti Classico blend was gradually altered to decrease the quantity of white grapes until none at all were used. Thus the Isole e Olena Chianti evolved from being a light, young wine to the fuller-bodied wine of today.

Cepparello

The concept and style of Cepparello was developed by Paolo De Marchi over a period beginning in the mid 1970s. The wine is named after a small stream, Borro Cepparello, originating in the highest point of the vineyards on the Isole e Olena estate. After barrel aging in French and American oak for 14 to 18 months, it is then aged in the bottle for one year before release. The wine is dense and intense but has a subtle finesse that frames lovely, dense, black fruit purity. It exhibits a lively color, fresh aromatics and a nuanced personality. It boasts layers of vibrant fruit intermingled with subtle mineral and licorice notes, showing outstanding length on the palate and fine, noble tannins.  ■ Grape Varieties 100% Sangiovese

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG

The year 2006 is a memorable year, which is just 60 years since 1956 when the father of Paolo, the current owner purchased the winery, and exactly 30 years from 1976, when Paolo started working seriously at the winery. It is this Gran Serezione that was built to celebrate that milestone. We carefully selected only the best barrels in the barrel of Ceparello and blended some Syrah and Cabernet · Fran. For 4 years aged barrel (2 year Otaru, 2 year barrel), aged for 4 more years in a bottle. While combining the delicacy of Chianti Classico with ease of drinking, it is a wine that feels a condensed feeling like a super Tuscan.   ■ Grape variety Sangiovese 80%, Cabernet · Franc 12%, Sirah 8%
