Dog Point Vineyard

Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable experience of James Healy and Ivan Sutherland founders of the iconic Cloudy Bay where they worked as winemaker and vineyard manager respectively. The name Dog Point dates from the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district. Shepherds' dogs sometimes became lost or wandered off and eventually bred into a marauding pack, which attacked local flocks.

After moving on from Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James started to work with their own Dog Point Rd vineyard where the vines, still partly leased by Cloudy Bay, date back to the 1970’s, (making them some of the regions oldest plantings). The first Dog Point Vineyard vintage was in 2002, and in a few short years Dog Point's limited production was selling out quickly and effortlessly.

The philosophy of Dog Point Vineyard is a simple one with James and Ivan totally involved in of all aspects in the vineyard through to the winemaking process to marketing regionally distinctive and vineyard expressive wines.
