A bright bouquet of red cherries and summer berries, black pepper, cassis and sweet vanilla.
An exceptionally fruit expressive wine with a core of black cherries and blackberries, lingering Freestone spice and notes of forest floor and tangerine peel. A creamy mouthfeel and silky texture paired with balanced tannins and acidity lead to a long, pleasing finish.

|Varietal(s)||100% Estate-grown Pinot Noir from Joseph Phelps Freestone Vineyards (60% Quarter Moon Vineyard and 40% Pastorale Vineyard).|
Joseph Phelps, who spent his early years as a working member of a farm family, founded the winery and vineyards which bears his name in 1972. This carefully brought up vineyard, situated in Spring Valley near St. Helena, is surrounded by undulating cattle farms, oak forests and abundant nature.
Long known for his innovative spirit and passion for quality, Joseph Phelps pioneered a number of “firsts” in the early years of the winery. The 1974 Insignia, released in the spring of 1978, was the first Bordeaux-style blend produced in California under a proprietary label. Varietals produced at Phelps include Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and the Insignia which due to its smooth mellowness and deep flavors, is recognised as one of the top icon wines from the Napa region.
