With a southerly exposure, this 3.22 hectare vineyard is a mix of clay and lime. Oak barrels are used in fermentation bringing about soft and subtle tannins.

The “Cellier aux Moines” parcel is very old with records dating back to 1258. With a terrific currant color, and a rich, intense fruit bouquet with aromas of ripe dark berries, this Pinot Noir has lots of sweet, pure fruit on the palate.

It is a beautifully balanced, velvety wine that offers good power, backend persistence and a lingering finish. This is a wine that can be enjoyed after a long aging period.

Winery Description

Domaine Thenard was founded to mark the occasion of marriage of Paul Thenard into the Yvon family, a family with a long history in Givry.

The domaine comprises a total area of 21.5 hectares, gathering 10 different appellations. They also own 2 blocks in the 7.9 hectare (4 hectares on the Puligny side and 3.9 on the Chassagne side) Montrachet vineyard on the Chassage side, which extend over 1.83 hectares. The first parcels of Givry were bought in 1760 and the Montrachet plot was bought in 1872.

The current store house representative is Jean-Baptiste Bordeaux Montrieux and his son. Born in Chalon sur Saone in 1959, Jean-Baptiste studied agriculture and winemaking, then worked at Domaine Thenard while working as General Manager of Remoissenet P&F from 1987 to 2005.
