This Chardonnay opens with a bright bouquet overflowing with apple, honeysuckle, white flower and Meyer lemon zest laced with notes of crushed rock and toasted Brioche. Fresh and lively with balanced minerality and a creamy texture, the wine boasts tart green apple, lemon custard and honeydew melon flavors throughout. Long and lingering, the finish is touched with stone fruit and sweet vanilla.

Joseph Phelps, who spent his early years as a working member of a farm family, founded the winery and vineyards which bears his name in 1972. This carefully brought up vineyard, situated in Spring Valley near St. Helena, is surrounded by undulating cattle farms, oak forests and abundant nature.
Long known for his innovative spirit and passion for quality, Joseph Phelps pioneered a number of “firsts” in the early years of the winery. The 1974 Insignia, released in the spring of 1978, was the first Bordeaux-style blend produced in California under a proprietary label. Varietals produced at Phelps include Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and the Insignia which due to its smooth mellowness and deep flavors, is recognised as one of the top icon wines from the Napa region.
