The name chosen by the proprietors, STUDIO by Miraval, is full of meaning. When jazz musician Jacques Loussier owned the estate in 1977, he added a recording studio. It is still there, just above the wine cellar. A succession of international artists such as Pink Floyd, AC/DC and Sade followed. Turning their backs on the famous studios of London or elsewhere, they chose to record in Miraval partly because of the quality of the sound but also for the inspiration they found in this spot – an inspiration the current owners firmly intend to preserve.
From March 5, you’ll be able to hold the spirit of the French Riviera in your own hands, with STUDIO by Miraval. This new rosé will be the common thread linking a location, a legend, a legacy, and, above all, a love of art. It is a homage to this legendary recording studio, an ode to the sublime Mediterranean and its incomparable “art de vivre”, and a spotlight on the grape varieties of the Côte d'Azur through its subtle blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle, and, above all, that iconic maritime grape, ibouren.
From March 5 all this will be captured in this new expression of a non-conformist and laid-back rosé dreamt up ‘by Miraval’.
|Grapes||Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle, Tibouren|
Very pale pink colour. Nose of fresh fruit and citrus fruit. Fleshy palate with notes of citrus and white flowers and a long finish with salinity.
Coming from plots on the French Riviera, surrounded by olive treesand pine trees, Studio by Miraval is strongly influenced by the sea sprays and the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea. These salty soils give the wine a unique character and an amazing balance.
All the varieties are vinified by direct pressing. The Cinsault and Tibouren in Stainless steel vats. The Grenache & Rolle are partially vinified in tulip-shaped concrete vats with a rounded bottom. This ovoid shape gives rise to a natural convection movement that suspends the lees creating the same effect as a batonnage and gives the wine a lot of structure.
Tucked away in its own private valley in the ancient village of Correns - the first organic village in France - Miraval covers 500 hectares of land in the heart of Provence. Miraval sits at the foot of Via Aurelia - an extensive route built to facilitate Roman expansion in the 3rd century BC - representing centuries of history. Following Celtic settlement and Roman occupation, the property served as host to monastic practice and as home to members of the French Court, appearing in the Registry of Noble Houses in the 14th Century.
At an altitude of 350 meters the vines are privileged to enjoy warm, sunny days and cool nights, brining freshness and balance to the wines. The natural clay and chalk soils are important in retaining vital water supply while at the same time draining excess water, contributing to healthy grape maturation.
In 1970, the well-known jazz pianist and composer Jacques Loussier took ownership of Miraval, turning it into a recording studio - Le Studio de Miraval. There, a number of famous musicians like Pink Floyd, Sting, Sade, The Cranberries and The Gipsy Kings came to record music. Today, Miraval is a summer residence of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who have given impetus to the heart of the estate as a place dedicated to the arts - music, cinema, theatre, local food and fine wine.
The domaine consists of 400 hectares (1000 acres) of which 30 hectares on the valley floor are devoted to vines. The château, in a modest vernacular style, has thirty-five rooms, a spa, Jacuzzi, twin gyms and an indoor pool. It is surrounded by gardens with a moat, fountains, ancient aqueducts, a pond and a chapel.
