Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Riesling
New

Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Riesling 2018

Jim Barry purchased the Lodge Hill vineyard in 1977 as he was sure that it would “produce some of the best Riesling in Clare”. Situated on the eastern ranges of the township of Clare, it is one of the highest vineyards in the Valley at an altitude of 480 meters, and is ideal for producing steely, minerally Rieslings, distinctive to the area. Clare is one of the few regions in the world that produce this dry, delicate style with less than 2 grams of residual sugar per liter. The wine is a brilliant, very pale straw color, with a greenish tinge. The nose shows lovely floral characters, blossom notes and pear/lime juice aromas. The palate is dry, with sharply focused tangy lemon rind and lime fruit flavors. Its chalky texture balances the steely crisp acid with a very long, limey finish. A wine to be enjoyed now or after it has aged gracefully.

Kilikanoon Mort’s Block Riesling

Kilikanoon Mort’s Block Riesling 2015

The grapes used for this riesling were sourced from the famous “Mort’s Block” vineyard in the Watervale region of the Clare Valley. The heavy soil consists of a Terra-Rossa (reddy-brown colored) loam layer on a layer of limestone. The climate is classic Mediterranean with rain fall concentrated in the months between May and October. Harvest yield is 3 to 3.5 tonnes per acre and takes place at the end of March when the flavor of the grape, the balance between the acidity and sugar is at its peak. Mort’s Block Riesling is pale straw in color with distinct green tints. Intense aromas of limes and lemons dominate with underlying floral and perfumed notes. The wine is dry with a crisp acid balance and a lingering finish.

Ashton Hills Vineyard Estate Riesling

Ashton Hills Vineyard Estate Riesling 2015

Reliable winter rains followed by a mild and dryish spring let to good flowering and fruit set for our 2015 Riesling. This was followed by excellent ripening conditions with warm days assisting flavour development and cool nights aiding acid retention. The outcome was our earliest vintage on record and certainly one of our best. With this riesling we again have a wine more European in style than Australian. It has a lightness of body; a fine texture, delicate-yet-intense and rich flavours and a lingering palate. The fresh, natural acidity is balanced by a small amount of grape sugar.

Cellar for 10-plus years or drink now by itself or with a wide range of foods from appertisers to entrees, mains, desserts or with cheese. Don't overchill.
