Il Palagio Casino delle vie IGT

Il Palagio Casino delle vie IGT 2013

More than a decade ago, Trudie Styler and Sting founded Il Palagio, a sixteenth-century Tuscan villa with olive groves and vineyards just waiting to be restored to their former glory. Careful nurturing of the vines over the last 10 years has yielded grapes of exceptional quality. “Casino delle Vie”, a 19th century farmhouse on the estate, gives its name to this wine, and reminds us that when all is confusion and chaos, when life feels turned upside down, a glass of fine Chianti can sometimes set the world to rights again. With its impressive 13,5%, this Chianti announces right from the start that it will pull no punches. On the nose, the first impression hints towards pepper, herbs and even mint. On the palate, this wine shows a nice level of dryness and thereby skillfully avoids the pitfall of overbearing fruitiness. In the finish, look for watermelon and raspberries.

Il Palagio Sister Moon IGT

Il Palagio Sister Moon IGT 2013

93 points Wine Spectator "This is a polished and beautiful wine, delivering blueberry, light toasty oak and currant character that turns lightly smoky and spicy. Full and very silky, with a long, long finish." Over ten years ago, in the Tuscan hills south of Florence, Sting and Trudie Styler began the restoration of a sixteenth-century villa and its gardens, olive groves and vineyards. Careful nurturing of the vines over the last ten years with the help of biodynamic viticulturist Alan York has yielded extraordinary grapes and the decision to release two wines. Sting’s song Sister Moon reflects the age-old connections between earth, moon, nature and mankind, and gives its name to the estate’s top wine, a harmonious blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet and 25% Merlot. The wine has beautiful aromatics, deep and intense fruit and spice, and a gorgeous, elegant structure.
